Some laws are made to be broken...

On the small, male-dominated planet of Noval gay sex is forbidden. Unfortunately for Krial, his size and strength make him a prime candidate for Noval’s breeding selection training. Krial is angry and resentful when he’s forced to spend three months on the backward, archaic planet. However, he never anticipates falling hard for his gruff and demanding trainer – Dax.

Dax is a professional. He won’t break the law, but he’s not above blurring a few lines for the benefit of his trainee.

Sometimes when the planets align the impossible becomes possible...

When the unthinkable happens, and Krial is selected as the next breeder, he lashes out at the only one who can handle him – Dax. During the physical battle that follows, Krial expects to be put in his place by his massive and controlled trainer. Never in his wildest dreams does Krial imagine that Dax will touch him, kiss him or invite him back to his bed.

HOT and SWEET!
By A_Basset_Lover
A free copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

A solid 4.0 stars!

This is the 2nd book by AJR I've read so far and both have been awesome. The author has a real flare for the art of short stories and knows how to quickly bring reader into the action and keep them suspended until the final page. There's no lagging around watching strangers meet and have to meet, fall in love, struggle to make their love work, and pull off some type of HFN/HEA in just a few pages. Instead she introduces us to casual friends struggling with their attraction to each other...often poised to explode. Released was a perfect example.

The books opens up at an ejaculation event called the Release. The reader is immediately submerged in a contest of sweating men, harried fluid collectors, and a lone contestant who finds himself unable to rise to the occasion. Poor Krial! After weeks of training to be the perfect specimen of manhood, he simply can't find the inspiration to share his seed....especially when he's concerned about leaving the object of his affections trainer Dax. Luckily, Dax isnt afraid to lend a hand when its needed....and I mean LITERALLY!!! After weeks of pining for Dax, Krial gets to experience just how the deadly giant can make him experience pleasure....in front of a crowd of spectators. But will the most explosive and pleasurable orgasm of his life doom Krial to a life of druggery!?!

The chemistry between the MCs is believable and magnetic! Watching the physically, powerful Dax finally give into his lust for Krial was almost just as stimulating as reading the flashbacks of their budding friendship...it also solidified that this wasn't just lust...there was affection and a true relationship underneath their unrequited passion.

I appreciated AJR's decision to make the two MCs normal people. It might have been easier to make Dax a warlord or something, but instead his "normalness" allows for a sweet ending that seemed to leave the door open for more stories set in this world.

I also appreciated that Krial wasn't just a pretty face. He was a mature male with emotions and a logical train of thought. This helped since the book was told from his point of view. Thankfully we weren't terrorized with lamentations of woe is me. Krial does take his situation lying down...at least for too long anyway *g*....he quickly executes a plan to get out dodge. Thankfully Love steps in the way of his plan.

Overall, I enjoyed the characters and the pacing of the story. I respected and cheered for the MCs to the very end...just how it's supposed to be! While the short stories are fulfilling, the only thing I could wish for are LONGER stories...probably because I'm a greedy American :-D

I can't wait to read another book by this author.

like the training sessions and the trials they underwent
By Kindle Customer
I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review

Released by A. J. Ridges is filled with steamy hot interactions between the MC’s Dex and Krial, but I felt as if that was really all there was to the story. Truly more of an erotica read, not that there is anything wrong with that. The writing flowed very well, it just left me wanting to know what came before. I felt as if we were being treated to the end of the story, with so much alluded to, like the training sessions and the trials they underwent, yet we never really see them unfold. I felt as if the author missed the opportunity to really take the reader deeper into her world, show how the trial to choose the chosen one got started and how they got the other planets to force their people to participate. There is a great deal of potential in the idea of the trifederation, the ritual selection process, as well as the weather disaster that caused the planet to be short females as well. It feels a bit like insta-love, reading the story in this manner, without being privy to all of the ways Dex and Krial came to be attracted to one another over the course of the training. It would have been wonderful to learn more about Krial and what kind of a life he led before being forced to travel to Noval. And I really wanted to know more of who both men were outside of the training as well. The originality and the ease with which I got pulled into the story and found myself wanting to learn more, made this a solid three for me.

The Illicit Prize
By Gabbo de la Parra
*Received without charge in exchange for an honest review.

Here we go.

This is the story of Krial, a gay man from a planet where gay relationships are not illegal. Duty as part of the Trifederation (I quite like this name) sends him to compete in a trial on a planet where his sexual orientation is unlawful.

Krial becomes attracted to his trainer Dax, but the situation seems so bleak that he chooses to flee the planet rather than stay there and face a destiny he doesn’t want. There is sex, (really fan-yourself-as-you-read-it good) and there is the glimpse of love that goes beyond physical attraction. And the final resolution is not just unexpected but delicious.

What didn’t let me give this story a full 5 stars is the almost non-existent world building. This is supposed to be on another planet(s), but it could be in Arkansas for all the description we get. There are very few moments that could make you think sci-fi, but not enough to make you feel in a different culture, let alone another planetary system. Also, the reasons for the competition are not heavy enough to make me want to root for the planet where it happens or its authorities.

Now, these things are my own private monsters and might not take other readers out of the story as they did to me.

All in all, this is a cool read, and I totally recommend it.
