If they had communicated sooner they could have avoided a LOT!

Annabel- Lee, known as Lee, is an assistant to a wine buyer. She and her boss are on their way to another potential supplier in France. Once there she meets Gilles Frebourg, Comte de Chauvigny whom she had known years ago. When she was sixteen one of her friends had written the 25 year old Gilles a letter that was forged in Lee's hand and signed Lee's name to the letter. Gilles was not happy to be the recipient of such a vulgar letter and let Lee know this. She was heartbroken and embarrassed because she actually did have a very bad crush on him.

Gilles takes advantage of Lee's presence by telling a rather forward woman who has been his mistress that he and Lee are engaged to be married. He proceeds to blackmail Lee after the woman leaves. Gilles has kept the letter that she had "written" all those years ago and threatens to reveal the contents to Lee's very proper fianc�, Drew, unless she agrees to marry him and stay with him for awhile. He tells her that they will part ways after a brief period of time and she can then return to her fianc� as though nothing has happened. Drew never needs to know. Gilles does not want to marry the other woman, Louise, as she is rather free with her favors and he doesn't want to have a wife that is like that plus he wants some land that her father will sell to him. Lee feels trapped and so she agrees to his outrageous blackmail. Gilles believes she is not a virgin and treats her accordingly. He is very hateful and mean to her throughout their marriage. Not only does she have to deal with Gilles and his erroneous beliefs but she also has to deal with the housekeeper which was recommended by the ex-mistress, Louise, and Louise herself. When Gilles discovers that she is a virgin her is further incensed. However from that one time she finds herself pregnant and Gilles feels that she doesn't want the baby while she comes to realize she still loves a man who may not ever love her. When Lee realizes she still loves Gilles she breaks off her engagement to Drew. Louise is behind several more machinations that befall Lee and Gilles eyes are slowly opened to what is going on around him. Gilles ends up defending her honor and it makes up for a lot of the hurt that he had inflicted upon Lee over the course of their marriage.

I like this book, but I have to say the leading man in this story infuriated me with his attitude most of the book. With that said, it is a keeper and I will read it again. The female lead was believable and very sweet.

A SO SO Book

Although I REALLY wanted to SLAP the hero in this story for his over aggressive attitude to the heroine, it was a pretty fair story.

Very complete but perhaps a bit too technical at times.

Jarrell clearly knows his subject.This book has almost everything (except sacred symbols)one would need. It makes an excellent reference. I, myself, having met and learned my Reiki from David Jarrell cannot speak more highly of anyone than I would of him. He embodies his work and is a patient teacher. His book conveys his confidence in what he understands Reiki to be. A "must-have" for all those who aspire to understand Reiki and incorporate it into their lives.

Written in 2002 and as always James Redfield is prophetic and yet realistic in his views on the evolving nature of human kind.

We are as persons always evolving and being stagnate is not an option. Either you decide to move forward or it will be forced upon you by unforeseen elements, political situations and the inevitable timetable of the death of your existence here on earth.

We can make our own choices or they will be made for us. Better to have some control of some matters and not live in a fatalistic environment. You can choose to create and make things happen, not all things but many are in our control.

No one has to suffer needlessly, at times you have to pick up your mat and walk the walk. This can be done in different ways, forced upon us or chosen but the only way to a better you is to be able to make those choices yourself. No one has the right to control your life, no one has the right to take away your freedom.

You might say that I am trying to live a Utopian life but why not shot for the stars, you might just reach the moon and that wouldn't be so bad. Better than digging your own grave deeper and deeper into despair.

A guide for tourists? Useless

As an upcoming visitor I was seeking a book with "things to see and do" and "places to stay", and transportation networks, and such vital things as that.
This book contains none of that. Listings of artists, painters, histories, and such things are cute, but offer zero help in setting up plans for an exciting, adventured filled visit, and a well planned visit at that.
This is simply the wrong book if you are planning a trip to Vancouver Island.

Great little book.

This was a great book to review before our trip to the island and was nice reading while on the island. It is presented in a nice way, you can just flip it open and you are exposed to tips, trivia, local folklore, place names - presented in boxes or not, but done in a way so that it is an appealing, easy read. The presentation of this book makes it an enjoyable book to reach for.
