An ad for his Lightning Process--based on insecurity?

Full disclosure: I've only read 75% of this book and am probably not going to finish it. It's poorly written, poorly planned, and based in insecurity.

Parker spends pages and chapters haranguing you about how you have to believe that there's a mind/body connection. (OK, OK, I do.)

He includes zillions of testimonials but they all scrupulously omit any description of his process.

He includes a whole aggrieved chapter trying to refute the bad things people have said about him on the Internet. (Phil, honey, just a hint: If no one is saying bad things about you on the Internet, it's probably because no one is talking about you there at all.)

My main difficulty, though, is that the book is pretty much an ad for his course, yet he says almost nothing concrete about it. Unfortunately, given that it's expensive and requires traveling somewhere, and that his customer base is largely people who have CFS/ME who can neither get around well nor earn a living any more, this seems mean-spirited at best and devious at worst. He seems to believe that any wheelchair-bound person can leave their children behind, dig up an attendant to travel with them at any time, and drop quite a bit of money, simply on his repeated assertions that it will all be OK as long as they believe. (Come on, Tinkerbelle!)

It's too bad because I can agree with the one thing he does say, that CFS may involve a bad feedback loop which produces constant physical-emergency responses in the body. But a good premise doesn't automatically translate into a good treatment.

I have no doubt (with insecurity positively reeking from the pages) that part of Parker's fears involve others stealing his methods. But he needs to recognize that more fully describing his methods is merely showing basic respect to those with limited resources of cash and energy. Other practitioners of various types describe their methods fully and still fill seminars, since written material and personal guidance really aren't the same.

Perhaps Mr. Parker needs to take his own process (which he claims also helps OCD, perfectionism, and fear of failure--surely it could help insecurity?) and then rewrite this book. As it is, my disappointment with its skimpiness ends up suggesting I'll also be disappointed with a skimpy course.

the lightning process has not been formally and thoroughly studied.
the lightning process buzz-or whatever buzz their is, is heavily dependant on testimonials, and testimonials themselves, do not constitute evidence of efficacy. i believe we should support real research into the medical aspects of ME. in my opinion the lightning process is what scientists call, woo-woo-

The solution of such a simple BDE means to execute an operation which is inverse to the given derivative. BDEs can be applied in the same fields as the BDC, however, their possibility to express sets of Boolean functions extends the application field significantly.

The Boolean difference equation of some Boolean function expresses how changes in a function's variables cause changes in the function's value. For example, the Boolean difference of a fixed Boolean function f = 0 or f = 1 is a constant 0, since a variable change does not change the function value. Boolean difference equations are useful in specifying tests for functions, since faults, especially stuck-at faults cause the faulty function to change less than the fault-free function.

This is a new text by authors who have made seminal contributions to this field. It is a compendium of what is known, how it can be applied, and what tools are available. Chapter 1 lays the theoretical foundation of Boolean algebra on which the rest of the book is based. A welcome contribution is a description of XBOOLE, a program developed by the authors to solve Boolean equations. This application is free, and the book's description is complete, encompassing necessary details in download, installation, and use. XBOOLE allows the representation of functions, the determination of whether two expressions are equal, and if not equal, which variable assignments satisfy both expressions. One can perform various operations on functions, including differentiation.

Chapter 2 begins with basic Boolean differences and ends in Boolean calculus. Chapter 3 extends to Boolean differential equations. Each chapter has exercises, and there is a solution-to-the-exercises section at the end (Chapter 4). Throughout these chapters are insights into how XBOOLE can be used to supplement the mastering of the concepts presented.

This book is theoretical. Historical perspective is provided to help the reader to understand the context of the theory. This is not light reading; it is, however, a comprehensive explanation of an important concept in logic design by authors who have made pioneering contributions to the field.

This book is devoted to the Boolean Differential Calculus (BDC). The BDC extends the structure of a Boolean algebra. By means of the BDC properties of Boolean functions of Boolean variables can be examined.

Chapter 1 goes over basics of Boolean algebra and the notation used in this outline. Chapter 2 introduces Boolean derivative operations. Chapter 3 focuses on Boolean differential equations.

I have an interest in Boolean functions, but from a cryptographic perspective. I won't go through the summary of the book, as the reader can find that out quickly using the Table of Contents, but I want to mention that I liked the style of the book. It contains many examples, a description of a piece of software that the authors developed (I downloaded that and played with it for a bit). I was aware of many concepts from this book by Steinbach and Posthoff on Boolean Differential Calculus, as we use them in Boolean combiners, but this book contains some of these in a leisurely pace and perhaps can be used even by researchers not working in this particular area.

It's ok.

This book has many errors, and while it may be the best (only?) basic esthetic text for new students, it is often confusing. I have a Masters' degree in Science and in Arts, so it's not like I'm new to school (changing careers), but, some of the chapters leave me scratching my head. I have to get out my old science and chemistry texts. Chapters on chemistry, electricity and physiology are large topics condensed to a few pages and it feels like someone who doesn't know these topics thoroughly is paraphrasing from
another text; I'm often unsure what they're trying to say.

When I read this book, I have to have my laptop and my other books handy. I understand it's an introduction, but I think the basics could be addressed more clearly. And certainly, the errors need to be corrected. It's not awful, there's a lot of good information, but it needs improvement.

This is the book students are forced to learn from to take the state exam. the $100 price is ridiculous for a trade school text book.

There are huge blatant errors in this book and information is laid out in non-sensical ways. Some of the photographs showing skin conditions are incorrectly labeled. There is information given in the glossary that differs from what is described in the main text. Spelling errors too....

I read in one of the comments that every book has errors -- umm, no they dont. Not if they are professional and have proper experts writing and editing the books. And doesnt the publisher have basic spell check ???

If the publishers of this book had any professional standards at all , they would hire science teachers to proof read this book.

This book weighs A TON and you have to drag this book back and forth every day. It is impossible to read this book on the train or bus because of its size and weight.

This book is still riddled with errors and it's due to the fact that they do NOT use Professional Eshehticians as their subject matter experts. They use cosmetologists who have NOT spent as much time furthering their careers as esthes do.

Some of the errors are down right ridiculous. Very disappointed in this edition.

EXCELLENT WRITING STYLE; LOGICAL ORGANIZATION; RELEVANT EXERCISES

Well written, logically organized book.
Examples and case studies are very relevant and support the theories concepts addressed in the book.
The formulas are logically presented and no leaps of faith are expected from the reader; all there in plain site.
If the author had included CDROM or a link to download the various models, or solutions in Excel files, the book would likely have become a desktop reference. Without the practical utilitarian materials, it is still a great book, but its daily application is limited in my case.
One can develop the models on his/her own, but today, the cost of a textbook, must include materials that enhance the longevity and practical application of this book. .
I was hoping for a manual to use more often than only while travelling on the Introductory Road to Operation Research-ville.

Excellent textbook, but do NOT buy Kindle edition

The textbook is very easy to follow, has great examples, very accessible and actually interesting to read. However buying this book on Kingle was a big mistake. Yes, it's great to read the material, however there are many tables that the text refers to, and Kindle doesn't make it easy to click on tables and then go back to text. It is especially hard to do problems, when you need to go back to the specific pages or find formulas or a table. It's doable, but would have been much much easier with a physical book. Yes, Kindle has 'bookmark' and 'highlight' functionalities, but they are hard to use and not intuitive. Until Kindle can offer touch-screen and be more intuitive, I'll stick to reading only books with plain text on it.

Should be a must-read for business people who run restaurants, sandwich shops, banks, government offices and any place where true customer service is important. Have referred it to my local McDonald's, Popeyes, Scotiabank, government department and others to read so they can improve their service systems.
