Full of information about QuickBooks 2016.

I am a total beginner with QuickBooks. I started reading this book to learn it, but I decided to purchase the Simon Sez IT DVD-ROM to learn the basics. I am happy so far just getting into the DVD. I think this book is very in depth when learning the software. I know I will use it in the future, reading it from front to back, or looking up certain areas as reference. I understand the complaint of the other reviewer about the font being a little hard to see. I can read it but someone that's a little hard of seeing might not be able to read it as well. I think they put a lot of knowledge in this already thick book, so I' assuming that's why the font is small. The grey font is for contrast and they might not have much options for a black and white publication. I think they put a lot of time into writing this book, and being very in depth, I think it deserves a good review.

Gave me crash course to prep for new job.

Last week I got hired as a part time bookkeeper at a local small business that does it's accounting on QuickBooks. I have a degree in accounting, and I've used Quicken before, but never QuickBooks. So before my first day, I downloaded this manual and read all the sections appropriate to what I knew I'd be doing on this job. Even though I'd never used QuickBooks, my accounting background gave me context for the different functions, so I could understand what was going on as I read through the various descriptions of functionality.

So, on my first day I was "loaded for bear" and got productive right away.

My only critique is that given how large this book is, how expensive it is, and it's aim to be comprehensive, I with there were a few more screenshots during long step-by-step descriptions of procedures. It left a little too much to the imagination. Of course, if you've got QuickBooks installed and you're using this next to your computer, that shouldn't be a problem.

The bottom line (accountants love bottom lines) is that this is the book I needed when I needed it.

a nice ending

the series is finally over. i've been reading it since 2003. there are just as many japanese in jokes as the previous ones that dont all translate well, but the back section tries to cover most of them.
i'm sad to see the series go but am glad they ended it now. it gets a little evangelion weird in the middle where its hard to keep track of whats going on but it concludes well enough.

since i've been reading this since the beginning, at first each character seemed a bit one sided but after 27 volumes, they're each given a chance to grow and show different sides. the humor has always been weird, punny, and irreverant but thats what made the series great.

The final volume in a eons long saga! The Saga of Excel!
Utterly mind blowing conclusion to this series. Of course if you have read even one volume you should buy this! Though be warned the entire last volume includes just about every character from the previous 26! So a LOT of jokes and important plot points can be missed if you weren't an avid reader of Excel Saga.

If you're like me, you love the mood whiplash in Excel saga, and there's certainly no shortage of that. But beyond the tone and characterization being consistent, there's a very interesting finale that I think is the best way to cap off the story. Everything is wrapped up in a way that only the world and characters of Excel Saga can handle. It was worth the wait.

Peter Kennedy is Professor of Economics at Simon Fraser University. A must have supplement for any econometrics class

Great book. Actually, I can't stress enough how great this book is. This is like a personal tutor who can explain concepts and more importantly, limitations of econometrics in practice, with words. If you can sense that your econometrics class is simple in principle but is being hidden underneath a bunch of math, don't hesitate one more second in buying this book. I read it on the train a lot and found that it helped immensely. Many econometrics classes provide general models or theories and expect you to figure out which models are just specific cases of the general model. Kennedy skips this step and just tells you in English which is refreshing and builds confidence. Even for a beginner 'metrics class, I would recommend this text because the most important thing to learn about OLS is its limitations. Where most texts assume away inconveniences, Kennedy shoots straight.

Better than Greene

The title should say it all. Greene's text was full of rambling and formulas with absolutely no explanation of what any of it meant. Greene was assigned text in my grad econometrics class and it was absolutely useless. So on a friend's suggestion, I bought Kennedy's text and aced my class without a problem.

Kennedy takes his time explaining the absolutely crucial parts. He goes through several mistakes and pitfalls one can make in the field in careful detail (Violating assumptions chapters). His book also has a great introduction to bootstrapping which is widely used in later applied courses and seminars.

One subject I wish he gave more detail on would be robust estimation. I felt the chapter was very short and he could have gone into the subject in more detail.

All in all, an excellent introduction to the field of econometrics. If you were assigned Cassella/Berger or Greene, do yourself a favor and get Kennedy's book because the others will not make any sense whatsoever. It also makes a fantastic reference book for when you are working in the private sector.

A MUST for econometrics students

Unfortunately, I didn't buy this book until AFTER suffering through Econometrics 1, but it did save my life for econometrics 2. As other reviewers have said - buy this book and read it BEFORE you read the same topic in Greene, Wooldridge, Verbeek etc. I describe this book as the one I read on the front porch with a cup of coffee. What was the last statistics book you could enjoy like that (AND still learn something). Some reviews say that this book is superficial - not really. Kennedy specifically cites reference texts where you can go for further details. I actually find his book more insightful, and it was the reason I could understand the equations, rather than superficially memorizing them. He tells you what the inverse mills ratio does in a Tobit model, rather than just writing out it's Greek letters and assuming you are such a calculus wiz that you will know what it does.
