About the Author
Raymond J. Learsy is the author of the updated version Over a Barrel: Breaking Oil's Grip on Our Future. A graduate of the Wharton School, he made his life in the fast-paced, risk-filled world of commodities trading, beginning in 1959. In 1963, he started his own firm and over twenty years expanded from the U.S. into Canada, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Brazil, and Pakistan, trading in an array of bulk raw materials and commodities, shipping to customers worldwide. In the 1980s, he became a private investor, and from 1982 to 1988, served as a Reagan appointee to the National Endowment for the Arts. Currently, he is a member of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Learsy's analysis of the international oil trade, OPEC, and its impact on the American and world economy has been featured in the National Review Online, the New York Times, the Pipeline and Gas Journal. Summary of practical uses

Modern Carpentary is like having a master carpenter with you at all times. It explains how to go from the site plan to the completed structure in easy to understand language. I have remodeled several houses, built a garage, deck, and addition to my house, all with professional quality and a built-to-last look. The section on roof framing is the best. The book simplifies the process into a few easy steps, even for the most complex hip roof. This book is a must for anyone who enjoys carpentary or wants to save money by doing the project yourself. Center of the world in carpentry

This is the best carpentry and overall construction book I've ever read. This should be at the center of all of your construction books. I do construction in the Navy and we have some great books to learn from but this gives book gives you more info on standard construction practices, load sizes for lumber and such detailed information with pictures that can't be beat. I've owned an older edition and that helped me out alot, but this book is truly modern and up to date with construction practices going on right now. This is a must have and you won't go wrong.

Secondary book needed

As a student in carpentry class, I find this book simple, helpful and detailed. But, our class has found ourselves going to other book sources to answer specific carpentry questions. Whether the information on what we want to know is too vague or just non-existent this book leaves out some particulars. Overall, this is a good foundational reference as a supplement to other sources.

Sorely needed schematic atlas

Wow. This is an excellent investment for MSK radiologists. This book is a schematic atlas of anatomy and pathology. There are some basic MRI images for anatomy at the beginning of the tome, but by and large, this is all illustrations. This has beautiful LARGE format illustrations of practically everything you could every imagine in MSK imaging. In particular, the detailed anatomy of the small parts (fingers/hand, forefoot, toes) is excellent. The section on meniscal tears is really gorgeous. Also, each joint (at the beginning) has the depiction of color coded nerve anatomy (life saver). Also, there's kind of a cool like section at the beginning that are thumbnails of all of the major processes/entities in a particular joint. Very, very easy as a quick reference.

At first, I thought it was just the images from the 2 volume text, but it looks like more than 1/2 of the images are new. Which says a lot, given the huge numbers of images/schematics/illustrations in this book and the revised "red book". Of those that are duplicates, I like the ones in this book better (larger, better color tone, etc). This is just a very well finished appearance. Obviously the publisher cared about the quality of the finished print product (so rare these days).

At first the very large size and format of the book and images might startle you. But, after getting used to it, you'll wonder why more text books don't have better images like these. Dr. Stoller has done it once again. Kudos ...

One orthopedic PA's opinion

I have really enjoyed looking through this book. It has great illustrations for all the muscles in the body and I really appreciate the grouping of muscles by innervation. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find the added discussions on various orthopedic conditions. This is a convenient addition to an atlas. My only complaint is the skeleton itself is never focused on in the atlas portion. In retrospect, this makes sense as it is written by an expert on MRI. Still, I've already used it numerous times in my practice.
